What can you expect from your first visit?
Your first consultation may take up to 30-40 minutes to get a thorough background of your overall health. We will begin by asking symptoms and signs related to your main complaint but we will then move on to other questions which seems irrelevant but useful to get an accurate diagnosis. Palpation and some orthopedic testings may also be performed if required.
Every TCM consultation session will include pulse diagnosis and tongue diagnosis. TCM Pulse diagnosis is slightly different with what you are used to, in addition to the speed we are also feeling for the quality and nature of the pulse. TCM Tongue diagnosis also offers a lot of information to the doctors. Both Tongue and Pulse will tell your doctors on what is going on inside your body, just like an X-ray or CT scan. So don't be shy and stick out your tongue!
After a thorough consultation, your doctor will tell you their TCM diagnosis, how Chinese Medicine can help and reccommend the most suitable treatment plan and options for you.
If you wish to proceed on getting a treatment we can then do acupuncture/massage/other modules. Acupuncture may be done on any part of the body but mainly on arms, legs and maybe abdominal. It is recommended to wear loose clothing when you come to get an acupuncture treatment. Needles may be retained in the body between 20 to 60 minutes depending on your condition, during this time it is recommended for you to rest and have a little nap.
During needle retention, we will prepare the herbs for you, this can be raw, powder or in tablet form. if you are vegetarian please advise to the doctor so they may adjust the herbs for you
The aim of acupuncture, herbal medicine and other modules of treatment are different but overall we are aiming to alleviate presenting symptoms and correcting the root of the cause at the same time.
The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the complaint and how long it has been a problem. We may also suggest dietary and lifestyle changes to preserve the state of health and prevent recurrence. If there is any questions, please don't hesitate to ask your doctor!
